HOW TO WRAP TECKWRAP
We all know TeckWrap is the brand that offers the most extensive color range and the best finish quality on the market. However, due to the thickness of our film, installation can be a bit more challenging. To ensure a flawless application, it's crucial to follow proper techniques. Before starting the installation, make sure to peel off the protective top coat sheet from the TeckWrap foil. This layer is designed to protect the finish during shipping and handling, but it must be removed to allow the adhesive to properly be installed. Skipping this step can lead to the foil not being stretchable.
Heating the foil is crucial before any stretching takes place. Aim for a temperature of 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit), as this will make the material more pliable and easier to work with. You’ll know the foil is ready when the visible waves on the surface disappear, indicating the perfect temperature has been reached. Proper pre-heating will prevent overstretching and potential damage to the foil.
Once you’ve heated the foil, avoid lifting and repositioning it. Doing so can result in glue lines or wrinkles that are difficult to remove. If repositioning is necessary, consider using our Triple S product, which allows for some adjustment without compromising the adhesive quality.
To avoid the foil from overlapping between panels, apply masking tape along the edges of each panel. Overlapping can cause the adhesive to mark the top coat, which can affect the overall appearance. The masking tape serves as a guide and barrier, ensuring a clean and seamless transition from one panel to the next.
When installing the foil into a recess, it’s important to use the “feeding” technique rather than the “bridging” technique. The feeding method allows the material to naturally conform to the shape of the recess, reducing the risk of overstretching or tearing. Bridging, on the other hand, can create tension in the material, leading to an imperfect installation.
Post-heating is a critical step that ensures the foil stays in place over time. After the installation is complete, heat the edges of the foil to lock in the adhesive and prevent the material from retracting. For glossy finishes, heat the edges to 120 degrees Celsius (248 degrees Fahrenheit); for satin finishes, 105 degrees Celsius (221 degrees Fahrenheit) is ideal. Skipping this step can lead to premature peeling and a less durable wrap.
